A mug of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream and swirls of chocolate sauce sits on a marble table top next to a stack of books.

Hot Cocoa

Servings 1

  • 8 oz milk
  • 2 tbsp dark cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch salt
  • assorted toppings optional

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan over medium low heat.

  2. Add in sugar, cocoa, and salt and stir with a whisk until the cocoa dissolves and the milk becomes frothy.

  3. Remove from heat and add in vanilla.

  4. Pour into a mug and top with marshmallows and/or whipped cream. Caramel sauce, chocolate shavings, or crushed candy cane make great toppings, too.
