Last year, there was a popular hot tea added to Starbucks “secret” menu, known as the “Medicine Ball”. This tea was posted all across Instagram as people’s go-to drink when they were feeling under the weather -and for good reason. With lemon, mint, and honey, it was the perfect hot drink to sip on. It soothed a sore throat, warmed you up, and seemed to provide a little extra energy. It didn’t hurt that it tastes really good, too.
When my local Starbucks ran out of the tea to make a Medicine Ball, I set out to make my own at home. I was able to get very close to the real thing, and I actually kind of like mine better. Plus, I don’t have to change out of my pajamas to have one. It just takes a few minutes and a handful of ingredients to whip one up at home.
A couple things first: the recipe calls for a bag of mint tea, and while you can use whatever mint tea you like, I really think Sleepytime tea gets this the closest to tasting like a Medicine Ball. The peppermint candies are optional, but they really make a difference. Also, if you don’t have soft peppermint candies, you can use 1 or 2 pumps of peppermint syrup, (I’d recommend this one). I haven’t tried, but I doubt regular peppermints would dissolve as easily as the soft variety.
Hope you enjoy!
